Lefthandthought is not a blogger, so if you want to see his work, you will have to follow him either on Instagram, or Facebook.
LeftHandThought is an architect who lives in New York City. From what I read on his Instagram presentation, he likes : architecture of course, but also interior design, travels, films and walking. Now let me tell you why this is worth mentioning : he basically takes photos of whatever catches his attention. So as soon as he is walking on the street, something can suddenly inspire him to take a photo. It can be a place, a monument, people, a scenery ... Anything ! But he does it in quite an amazing way.
If just like me you love photography, then his account should definitely make you happy. There are a lot of different vibes in his work. Some photos are very poetic and romantic just like the one above, others are very urban, when some seem like a scenery from a fairytale, some are just sooo funny, or cute, etc. You really get a whole spectrum of feelings through the photos.
What I appreciate the most in his work is that it's quite deep. There is always more to see than just the image in front of you. The titles he gives to his shots will lead you on the way.
Let's take the one above as an example. It is called "Going opposite the Water flow", have you understood why ? Of course, there is the fact that the photo was taken at the Water Street, but there is also the ad' on the left, on the background, where you can read "WATER", and the traffic sign "Water St.". Now, why "Going opposite the water flow" ? Well, simply because the traffic sign "One Way" is pointing the opposite direction from the one the couple is heading to.
And just like that, this random couple, that was simply walking on the street, became the symbol of a sweet rebellion, an image of simple protest, a representation of the word "daring", or even the transposition of what it means to "break free" from conformity. They're creating their own path despite what society is expecting them to do.
See ? It is that easy to suddenly let the photo's story take place.
By the way, I picked this photo as a representation because it's the one that had moved me first and which I loved first. I think it could definitely be printed and put in a frame because I would buy it and put it in my house, like, for real !
As for LeftHandThought himself, he is very dedicated to his art : he doesn't hesitate to go through all the trouble of waiting for someone to appear at the place he wants to take the photo at, just so the idea he had on his mind could be realized. That's true passion there !
Also, don't hesitate to talk to him, he's a very nice person. He's very humble so he will probably deny being an artist or even a photographer, but I think that the viewers can decide if what they see is art, at least for them, and that's what I feel like. When you find beauty, expression, movement, life, emotions, stories and so many other things in photos, then I believe you can call them art. It's also a real work because of the quality of the shots : they are so great, be it the lightning, the angle he took, the interpretation he tried to give, etc.
And by the way : he speaks Korean, which I find so cool ! He does have some photos from South Korea.
So I hope you guys go check his photos because they're really beautiful and I think that one can never have enough of beautiful and meaningful art. :)
